JANET COX
As an imaginative child in a rural village, in the Scottish Borders, with no street lighting, I was very aware of how dark the world was and how welcome the return of the full moon, if the weather allowed.
Home, an old coaching inn, now converted into three houses, creaked and groaned. We lived in the centre part with the open well staircase leading to the bedrooms.
The stables complete with stalls and manger garaged the Morris Minor. The odd conversion allowed for alcoves which led nowhere rather than a corridor into another wing of the building.
Bedroom cupboard doors opened onto brick wall. Some should have opened into other rooms, now housing neighbours.
At night it was full of dark shadows and recesses. Weather, torchlight, trees, country lanes and open countryside, things being out of place have provided sources for ideas.

DENISE HAWTHORNE
My studio in Welton was built in 1859, the village Methodist Chapel for many decades, and then a school room.
It is now my studio; technology free, and a quiet, welcoming space in which to work and teach.
I taught Art and Design first at Ancaster High School, then at Lincoln College of Further Education.
Since retirement I have had the luxury of spending much more time painting.
I use watercolour in my sketchbooks then work on more developed acrylic paintings once back in my Old Chapel studio.

ALAN ABBEY
“To me it’s a place thing…always places that I find interesting.
They have got to spark my imagination and the hard part starts, to translate it into an image that captures the essence of the place”.

Alan was born in 1956 in a small village in North Lincolnshire.
He studied Graphic Design at Doncaster College of Art in the mid 70s.
“I started Lino Cuts about 12 years ago and I have had work exhibited at the Ferens Gallery in Hull and the Harley Gallery in Welbeck; the Visual Arts Centre, Scunthorpe and the Ropewalk in Barton upon Humber.
I have Solo and Group Shows in Gallery at St Martin’s, Lincoln, and locally in Group Shows with the LAS”.

Alan at work…
At the Station, Richmond, Yorkshire in 2016 with other LAS members…
Alan is described as a printmaker specialising in single and multicoloured lino images. He absorbs the feel of his subject, which then develops within his work.
