David C Morris
I have drawn and painted since childhood. Art was my favoured subject at school which may have influenced my career path into building surveying and architectural design.
Happiest when outside in the countryside or at the coast ‘surveying’ the sights, absorbing the atmosphere and watching how the weather changes the light and scenery.
.

Farmstead – Bassingham, Lincolnshire.
I have persevered with watercolours and have not ventured into oils or acrylics because I like the transparent effects achievable and the fact that this medium dries quickly allowing an overlay or completion.

Twilight tranquility
I use masking fluid and inks to bring detail into my work. Having previously mentioned ‘I did not venture into acrylics’, I do make use of professional quality white acrylic for highlights and overlay as per the barn owl above.

Sam and Cyril
I am self-taught but in 1991 I joined ‘Winthorpe Art Group’ tutored by Maxwell Neale where I continue to attend weekly to develop my watercolour painting and drawing skills.

Steep Hill Lincoln
A change from the countryside, influenced by my love of old buildings. Too shy to sit drawing or painting in a busy street, I worked from a photograph I had taken.

Rusty roofed stone barn – South Lake District.
Detailed drawing, pencil and ink helped to capture the natural materials contrasted by the orange rusty corrugated iron sheet roof.

All Saints church – North Collingham.

Cley Windmill – Norfolk
I painted a dramatic sky to suggest an approaching storm, the dark areas highlighting the white sails and soaring seagulls, contrasting with a calmforeground of reeds where a bearded tit is perched.

Siffkey Cockles (moored at Morston, Norfolk).

Storm o’er the marshes

Brambles in the hedge bottom
Attracted by the colour of leaves in a winter hedge, crossed by a frosted nettle stem, I added a wren (top left corner), all captured with watercolour and ink.

Retired in Lincolnshire
I saw this abandoned tractor at the edge of a field in the Fens, over grown with vegetation and rust. It’s ‘pod eyes’ and ‘radiator grille smile’ suggesting it was happy in its final resting place below a Lincolnshire sky!

Herdwick in the long grass
I exhibit in Harding House Gallery on Steep Hill, Lincoln and in Newark Art Gallery, Kirk Gate, Newark and in other local art exhibitions.
